We just completed two really good Annual Meetings (NWGA and LVBA). Both had tremendous music that aided in our worship and both had excellent preaching where the word of God was proclaimed. Thank you to all who helped make these nights wonderful times of fellowship, worship, and inspiration. As we look forward, the Georgia Baptist Convention is November 9-11 at First Baptist Church of Atlanta. It will begin Sunday night with an Inspiration Service. Early Monday is the Evangelism Conference with breakout sessions and speakers. The rest of the day Monday and Tuesday is the Convention itself. Come join with us as we gather with Georgia Baptist from around our state.
I am reading a book by Jon Gordon called Training Camp. In one of the chapters, he writes about Coach Bill Walsh, who coached the San Francisco 49'ers to three Super Bowl wins. He said coach Walsh feared success more than failure because success tended to bring on complacency. Players, Coaches, and Teams thought they could duplicate what they had achieved by just showing up. They quit working as hard, they lost some of their passion, and they quit striving to constantly get better resulting ultimately in something less than greatness. As I read that, I thought "how true of some churches." They accomplished some victory for Christ, (a new building, more people, conflicts resolved, better care of their members ...) and then decided to rest on their laurels - no more hard work, no more passion, no more working to get better. And the inevitable result? Decline! I want to challenge us all, let us not be an Association of churches in decline! Let our glory days be still to come! Let's keep working hard for Jesus, let's maintain our passion for Him, let's keep working to serve Him better every day!
